In Van Kesley's world, free press is heavily monitored by the Cyberians, but that doesn't stop people from doing it anyways.  The Internet no longer exists for anyone outside the control zone, which is the area(s) of the country that has actually been colonized by the Cyberians.  Mostly the major cities on the Eastern Seaboard and Chicago.  Thus, radio is the most popular way to communicate in this world.  Land-line telephone, Citizen Band (CB), short wave, AM/FM, and HAM radio frequencies are now alive like never before, however, anyone who wishes to stay alive uses a bouncer or a scrambler.  A bouncer is a fictional piece of technology that will "bounce" your radio signal around the globe and prevent you from being pinpointed.  Similar technology exists in real life, but in reality it's limited to Internet communications.  The other thing is a real piece of technology called a scrambler that scrambles the signal, and can only be decoded by another scrambler.  Without one, if you tune to that frequency all you hear is static, and it's as if theirs no transmission at all.  This is real technology, however it's mostly used for secret telephone calls.

GPS, cellphone, and Bluetooth are no longer used, due to the fact that they are easy to trace and hack into.

In this world, vehicles built after 1995 are not to be trusted.  That's when cars started having a lot of computers in them.  The only vehicles to be trusted are from 1994 and older.  Such as Ian's 1965 GTO, Amos' 1977 Ford Towtruck, and eventually Tanya's 1981 AMC Eagle.  Cars with too many computers can be easily hacked and traced by the Cyberians.

Rebel forces have a primitive Internet alternative in development.  It's only command line and text screens so far, however it cannot be hacked by Cyberian forces.  It's called OrgaNet.  To access OrgaNet, you need a specially encoded modem and vampire-tap.

Sorry for the late response. I was finishing up some assignments. But I have some time to comment. So far so good. I like the ideas you have here. And it makes perfect sense about cars with computers in them. Any of those would make one an easy target for the enemy. So you gotta go old-school if you want to survive.
